Footballers off to a winning start in championship

With a few games moved to midweek, the only survivor was the Intermediate Championship game Fr Murphy’s v K.K.G., which was played at Wormwood Scrubs in beautiful conditions.
K.K.G were first out of the blocks, with a pile driver, bound for the Fr Murphy’s net, until keeper Elaine Hayes, miraculously tipped it over the bar. After that Murphy’s settled into the game with two points for Leanne Drumm, before Laois girl Laura Dunne took over with two goals, both rockets giving K.K.G keeper Rachel Healy no chance, this was followed by points from Hannah Trehey and Leanne Drumm, before Laura Dunne added two further goals, then K.K.G hit back with a goal of their own, to leave the score at the break Fr Murphy’s 4.07 K.K.G. 1.01.
Both teams were slow to start  after the interval, but Fiona Considine got into the Murphy’s goal scoring mood with a great shot, followed by points by Leanne Drumm and Majella Byrne to leave the final score Fr.Murphy’s  5.11 to K.K.G’S 1-03. The game was impartially refereed by Eoin Kelly.
